About SUSTAINED table linen

LONG LIVE THE LINEN!

A damask tablecloth is often too precious to be used, permanent stains are always a risk. That's why textile-artist Sara Vrugt contrives elegant embroidered stains on classic table linens: the typical wine-rings left by glasses, knocked over cups and traces of sauce spoons. If the tablecloth is already "stained" no one needs to feel uncomfortably careful at dinner.

This characteristic linen promises a refined dining table at which you can feel free to move and laugh. SUSTAINED celebrates imperfection!

FRESH IDEALISM

Sara Vrugt (1981) graduated in 2006 as a textile and fashion designer at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague. Her embroidery works and community projects deal with societal themes. She aims to open the eyes of the public to serious political and social issues in everyday life. She does so by using soft materials, humor and a great deal of consideration. See her portfolio.

ADVANCING TOWARDS THE PAST

SUSTAINED chooses specifically for vintage material as a basis. This reuse is not only an ethical choice, but also an aesthetic one: antique table linen is often more beautiful than new fabric because of the subtle materials and refined designs. Sara explains: "In my opinion the fact that the linen has been used adds an extra dimension: It has been a quiet witness to romance, family crises and important moments in people's lives long before us. Thus each piece tells its own history."

HANDWORK

The table linen is screenprinted and embroidered in Sara's atelier. Thus, customised work on your own linen is possible. Grandmother's classic tablecloth will get a new life and can be used by the next generations.

SUSTAINED's table linen is machine washable. See the FAQ for washing instructions.
